La Union, is a city located in the northern part of Luzon island, in the Philippines, is dubbed as the Surfing Capital of the North. It is a popular favorite for locals and tourists alike, couples and barkadas (close friends) often go this surf town for a quick surf getaway. However, if you would rather skip the surfing lesson, La Union has several activities and places to check out. For example, we have visited Tangadan Falls, where you can experience a refreshing cold dip at one of La Union’s most popular waterfalls. It only takes an easy 1-hour trek to get there!
The third tourist destinations on my list was the Lomboy Grape Farms. Here is a Fun Fact about this place: It's the birthplace of the Philippine grape industry! And with just a small amount of money, (Entrance Fee: P100 or $2) and (Grape Picking/ basket: P350/kilo or $7) you can enjoy this remarkable experience! Now that’s amazing!Another place we’ve visited is the Tagpuan (meeting place) where you can savour on their best foods and delicacies such as Ilocos Norte burrito, Vigan longganisa (a delicious type of sausage made with spices and meat). They also specialize in Filipino rice bowls topped with favorites like tapa (thinly sliced marinated beef), pares (beef simmered in sweet soy and anise), and chicken adobo flakes. But their best bowl perhaps, and the one you should try considering the region, is this bagnet rice bowl. It’s a supremely crispy deep-fried pork belly dish that hails from the Ilocos region, which is the province just north of La Union. Bagnet is probably one of the crispiest pork belly dishes you’ll ever have in your life. It’s delicious and a must try!
Last but not the least, is the visit to La Union’s famous beaches. Yes, I will never ever forget to go to the beach :) Here are some things I loved about going there that I want to share with you.
- If you're going there to surf, the best times would be July - October and November - March.
- La Union's popular beach spots include Urbiztondo Beach, San Juan. From the bus terminal, you can either take a jeepney (P11) or a trike (P50) there. Travel time will be around 25 minutes.
So you better get that bikini and beach body ready before going to this beautiful white sand beaches!
